Pre-Lenten Season (Apokries)

The "Apokries" usually fall in March. It lasts for two (2) weeks. It begins the Sunday of Meat Fare and ends with the start of Lent, on "Clean Monday" ("Kathara Deftera"). Adults and children wear costumes and go to masquerade parties. Many times in Greece, they have carnivals where people and bands in costume roam the streets.
